Wareham Fire Station

This station is crewed by On-Call (Retained) staff.

On-Call (Retained) Firefighters may have other jobs and must live or work within four minutes of the station as, when needed for an emergency, they are paged to respond. The fire engine must leave the station within five minutes of an emergency call being received, so you must be able to respond quickly.  Many local employers release their staff to support us and a high number are self-employed.  We are extremely grateful for all their help and support.

The crew train every Tuesday night (18:30-21:00) to make sure we can respond safely and effectively to all types of incidents.

Currently, we are recruiting On-Call (Retained) staff at this station.  We also have Community Volunteers and Home Safety Advisors, so if you think you have what it takes and want to make a contribution to your community, please see our job vacancies page.

You can also support the station in other ways.  Have a look at what the Firefighters Charity has to offer.

Live Incident Feed - See below if the station is dealing with an emergency and what they have responded to recently.

We aim to get a fire engine to 80% of all fires where there is a sleeping risk within 10 minutes and a further appliance in 13 minutes. For other buildings, we still aim to meet these targets with back up by 15 minutes. For road traffic collisions, the target is 15 minutes for 80% of the time. These targets are very challenging in rural communities. See what we can achieve by looking at our performance in the ‘Make a Difference’ tab.

Help us to help you. If you are unfortunate enough to need our assistance, we will get to you quicker if the name and number of your home is clearly displayed.

If things go wrong, this station has 2 fire engines with rescue equipment, a Landrover and a UNIMOG, which provides off road support to heathland or forest fires (the actual location of Service vehicles is subject to change without notice).

Most fires and accidents happen to people that never thought it would happen to them. Some are well prepared and get through it with minimum impact. Some are not and experience significant loss.

We want to help you become safer in your own home, on the roads and in your community.

Our station team provides free support, advice and equipment. We do this by targeting those most at risk in their homes, on the roads, and from anti-social behaviour, such as fire-setting. We also support youth education programmes at schools and colleges, and we share information with our partners, such as the Safe and Independent Living programme, to signpost each other to those with specialist needs. The Safer Homes for Dorset Programme also helps us to deliver basic home safety awareness sessions to organisations and volunteers who regularly visit people in their own homes.

If you are interested in coming to one of our station open days, or other local event, have a look here. These offer free support and guidance. They are also great fun!

We want you to help yourself and those around you! Have a look at our safety information pages to find out how.

If you, or anyone else you know could benefit from some free home safety advice, or free smoke alarms, please call 0800 038 2323 or visit our Home Safety Check Portal.

Your Home Safety Advisor for this area is Gerald Holloway.  You can Email Gerald directly or contact our Service Headquarters General Enquiries number (01305 252600) to leave a message for Gerald and he will get back to you as soon as he can.

We know what risks our station faces and we work with others to manage these. In the Wareham area there are sites such as Perenco gathering station, extensive open heathland environments protected landscapes, Winfrith Technology Centre (including Dorset Police HQ) and numerous isolated traditional Dorset villages, for example Kimmeridge which may bring additional challenges to the way we would respond to an incident. The station also attend many road traffic collisions.

It's really important that we try to reduce the risks and impacts of emergencies on our families and communities.

You can help us manage community risks. Those that live in a remote rural area, who are elderly, living alone and less mobile are extremely vulnerable if they have a fire in their home. We want to do everything we can to make sure they don’t become a casualty. If we know about them, we can offer support and guidance. That’s where you come in!

If you, or anyone else you know could benefit from some free home safety advice, or free smoke alarms, please call 0800 038 2323 or use our Home Safety Check portal.

If you store ammunition in your home we also need to know.  Please follow the link and complete the form.

We also work closely with other emergency services.  Follow the links below to see how they manage their risks.
